Another Oldie

Now, I don't do anything half-way. That is just not how I roll! This is the VERY FIRST cake I had ever done in my life besides your basic round two-layer cake with store bought icing smeared all over it. Throw some candles in...Voila! Done!

I decided that this year (1996), I was going to decorate a birthday cake for my oldest daughter who was turning 8. She was having a Dress up/Tea Party so I thought a castle type cake would be perfect.

To back up a little, my Mother-in-law ex-husband's mother used to decorate cakes, so she had quite a collection of decorating tools, along with many, many Wilton cake decorating books. So, I went through the books and true to form, chose something that was not quite beginner friendly. When I decide to do something, my motto is Go big, or go home!

One crucial piece of information that my mentor failed to clue me in on was the need to support stacked cakes. Hence, the sag. Sad, because other than that, it was really quite good. If I must say so myself.

Back in the day, we didn't have a digital camera so these were actual photos that I scanned and don't quite do the cake justice.

I have to say, the girls didn't seem to mind the sagging. They just wanted cake!
